“My counsellor really ‘got’ me and for the first time, ever, I felt listened to and heard!”
The Counselling Service provides one-to-one therapeutic work for women with women
We are BACP organisational members and adhere to their code of ethics and practice.
Referrals for one-to-one counselling can be made by individuals or by professionals, when an individual agrees to the referral. Following an initial assessment, where appropriate, we will offer a short to medium term counselling contract to work in a focused way on specific client needs.
“Counselling has helped me to move forwards and understand some of the ‘rubbish’ I’ve been holding on to.”
Our service aims to be accessible and inclusive, therefore the service is available in the centre and through outreach venues and appointments are arranged to assist women in obtaining the help they need when and where they need it. Our counsellors offer regular appointments, sessions last up to one hour.
All of our counsellors are volunteers and will either be qualified or a trainee counsellor. Whatever her status she will be able to work at an appropriate level of competence. Counsellors receive supervision for their work. If your counsellor needs to discuss her work with you in supervision, then your anonymity will be protected.
We are bound by the centre policy on confidentiality and by the Data Protection Act.
