Liaison & Diversion
Liaison and Diversion (L&D) services identify people who have mental health, learning disability, substance misuse or other vulnerabilities when they first come into contact with the criminal justice system as suspects, defendants or offenders.
The Service, which is funded by NHS England, works with vulnerable adults and young people who come into contact with the criminal justice system, with the aim of diverting individuals away from crime and into health, social care or other appropriate organisations.
The service operates across the whole of West Yorkshire and aims to improve overall health outcomes for people and to support people in the reduction of re-offending. It aims to identify vulnerabilities in people at the earliest point of entering the CJS which reduces the likelihood of people reaching a crisis point and helps ensure the right support can be put in place.
WomenCentre is one of the delivery partners for the service in West Yorkshire and provides specialist Support Time Recovery Workers to work with women in Calderdale and Kirklees. These staff are embedded within the multi disciplinary teams, based at police stations.
