WomenCentre Homes: a home for the future
You may have heard that WomenCentre is starting a Housing Project and is aiming to acquire 50 properties over the next 5 years.
WomenCentre is looking to provide safe homes for women and their children in Calderdale.
This project will help us to house women in need and enable us to generate an income so that WomenCentre becomes more sustainable over time and less reliant on grant funding.
We will provide housing support once a property has been allocated with wider support services available from WomenCentre.
We secured some initial funding from the Longleigh Foundation and Nationwide to appoint a housing development manager who has been drawing on the experience from Preston Road Women’s Centre. Preston Road Women’s Centre are well established in developing sustainable housing for women and can provide evidence to show an increase in the number of women who DIDN’T return to abusive partners.
Additionally, we have been successful in a bid to Homes England to help move the project forwards and with loan funding from the Community Foundation for Calderdale and secured funding from LandAid, we are ready to refurbish our first properties. A local housing organisation is also supporting us with the supply of properties towards this exciting housing project.
