1125 Girls & Young Women Project

Please note: Our waiting list is currently closed. Therefore we cannot take new referrals at this time.

Project 1125 works with girls and young women aged 11-25 years to overcome the challenges that are impacting their day-to-day lives and is funded by the National Lottery.

We offer tailored support to meet the individual needs of girls and young women. Our priority is empowering girls and young women to live fulfilling lives by stopping risk and adversity from escalating and helping them to feel heard and understood.

We undertake an assessment of needs which identifies areas of focus for one-to-one work; this might include making new connections in local communities, developing new interests, exploring and addressing mental health and wellbeing, and linking in with other organisations.

Project 1125 can support girls and young women with confidence and self esteem , healthy relationships, family conflict, coping strategies for school and college, and staying safe.

Many of the girls and young women we work with have complex and multiple needs and may be in crisis.  Guiding girls and young women through crises such as self-harm, exploitation, violence, homelessness and questioning identity forms the core of our work.

We use a strengths-based approach that places the capabilities, skills and resilience that a girl or young woman has at the centre. We know that girls and young women are experts by experience in their own lives and we seek to understand and walk alongside them as they access support with Project 1125.

How we differ

We offer holistic interventions working with girls and young women, rather than a one-size-fits-all model; the length of time we can support girls and young women depends on the needs identified, our support isn’t time limited.

We know that “growing up young and female is mediated by gender discrimination, norms and practices. This means that girls and young women are particularly vulnerable to sexual and domestic abuse, stress, anxiety and depression, with rising levels of body dissatisfaction, low self-esteem and self-harm” (Kelly and Karsna, 2017; Scott and McManus, 2016; ONS, 2018; NHS Digital, 2018)

Our response to this is to offer intensive early intervention at a time of critical social and emotional development which will build resilience and reduce the likelihood of requiring further intervention from support services in the future.

We welcome requests for support from professionals, parents/carers and directly from girls and young women aged 11-25 years.
