Welcome to our Matrons & Ambassadors
WomenCentre is proud to announce our first 2 matrons who joined us over the summer. We are very pleased to welcome both Jill Liddington (writer and historian) and Ellie Sax (performer and saxophonist). Being a Matron of WomenCentre does not need to take up a great deal of anyone’s time, it just shows the general public that they want to make a difference by allowing WomenCentre to use their high profile public profiles in support of our work. Read what Jill and Ellie had to say below.
Jill Liddington
Jill Liddington, writer, and historian has been a supporter of WomenCentre since the very beginning in 1985. In July 2021 she joined us as an official Matron.
On accepting the role, she said:
‘I am delighted to support WomenCentre. Providing a safe space for women has never been more vital, and I know the Centre will continue to help women support other women’.
Ellie Sax
Saxophonist and performer Ellie Sax is our newest matron, joining us this summer. On accepting the role, she said, “I am honoured to be supporting WomenCentre. As women, we need to stand together and support each other in times of crisis, and WomenCentre supports local women in Calderdale and Kirklees in times of crisis.
Do you know of anyone who we could also approach?
We are always looking to recruit Matrons and Ambassadors in differing roles at WomenCentre. We look for people who can share our stories and spread the word, those who can help raise funds and those that can raise our profile.
There are many ways you can support us:
• Join us as a member for just £10 a year
• Recommend local companies and business to be Corporate supporters for as little as £100 per year.
• Recommend local iconic women to become a Matron or Ambassador. Email: maxine.edwards@womencentre.org.uk
• Fundraise for us.
